64MP Camera: the main sensor of the Galaxy A72

This 64-megapixel rear camera is the main sensor of the Samsung Galaxy A72. It handles high-resolution photo and video capture, and its replacement becomes necessary when images are blurry despite cleaning the external lens, when the camera app refuses to open with an error message, or when autofocus can no longer achieve focus. A drop or water ingress are often enough to damage the flex cable or the sensor itself.

64MP Resolution: what it changes on the Galaxy A72

The 64-megapixel sensor of the Galaxy A72 captures high-definition images, usable for cropping without loss of detail or for large-format prints. In automatic mode, the phone combines four pixels into one (pixel binning) to produce 16MP photos that are brighter and less noisy in low light. The native resolution remains accessible with one tap in the Camera app, and this latitude explains why Samsung equipped this model with a main sensor significantly superior to the 12MP found on lower ranges.

This sensor works with phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), which speeds up focusing on moving subjects. A faulty camera loses this responsiveness: the frame remains blurry, the shutter is slow to trigger, and shots come out failed despite a clean lens. Check compatibility with your model

This camera fits exclusively the Samsung Galaxy A72. The Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52s 5G, although visually similar, feature the same 64MP sensor on a different flex cable: installing a part intended for the A72 on either of these two devices results in a connection failure or an error message in the Camera app. Check the exact model in Settings > About phone before ordering.

The Galaxy A72 comes in a single variant for Europe (model SM-A725F). No color or memory distinction affects the camera: the part remains identical regardless of the back cover finish.

What the package contains and what you need to plan for

The package contains the 64MP rear camera alone, with its integrated flex cable. The external glass protective lens, visible from the outside of the phone, is not included: it remains glued in the back cover and can be reused if not cracked. In case of breakage, it is ordered separately under the reference Camera Lens Samsung Galaxy A72.

Replacement requires removing the back glass, held by adhesive. A heat gun set between 60 and 80 °C softens the glue without damaging the glass; a suction cup and plastic pick then allow the glass to be lifted without breaking it. Once the device is open, the camera is released by unscrewing two Phillips screws and disconnecting its flex cable from the motherboard connector. Reposition the new flex cable in line with the connector, without forcing: crooked insertion tears the contacts.

2-year manufacturer warranty

This part is covered by a 2-year warranty from receipt. It covers any manufacturing or conformity defect found under normal conditions of use: sensor that does not initialize, flex cable severed upon delivery, repeated hardware error in the Camera app. Damage caused by installation error, overheating during disassembly, or a drop after installation remains excluded from the warranty scope.
